Australian kids are again ensconsed in that long-term, influential experience called 'school', but -- ARE THEY DOING THE SCHOOL YEAR BACKWARDS?

Melbourne, February, 2011 - Melbourne author, Liliane Grace, is inspiring school students to choose their end-of-year results at the start of the year. Instead of waiting to see what they achieve come December, they are deciding on their results early.

Grace's book for adolescents, The Mastery Club - See the Invisible, Hear the Silent, Do the Impossible, tells

the story of five kids who form a club to support each other in achieving their goals and dreams. They are led by a green-haired possibility thinker called Nina, whose ideas challenge and stimulate the others to make changes in their lives and create some 'magic and mastery'!

But this book is not just a story. Sixteen year old Stephanie Limm and ten year old Ben Wagner were recently interviewed by the author about their achievements. Stephanie read The Mastery Club when she was 10 and set the goal to win a scholarship to her secondary school of choice; she achieved it and has gone on to achieve many more of her goals. Ben shared about the Prep/Grade 1 spelling book he completed in under a year, and the computer he saved for and achieved on his own. (His life goal is to own his own castle!)

Grace wrote and self-published The Mastery Club in 2006. It won an international award for juvenile fiction in 2007 and is now in its fourth print run. The Mastery Club was published in China last year and looks set to be released in Germany later this year. Visit www.themasteryclub.com.au for more information.

Quote from The Mastery Club book - p.45:

"You know, they really teach the school year backwards," [Nuncle] said, offering the chocolates again. "It would be much more useful if you kids decided your end of year results at the beginning of the year."

I looked at him doubtfully. "What do you mean?"

"What a cool idea!" Nina interrupted enthusiastically. "Instead of hoping and wishing, you visualise what you want from the start. You could plan on straight As if you wanted to."

There are lots more success stories and testimonials on the website but if you go straight to the Kids Page you can hear 9 year old Andrew Kennaugh share his story about how he did exactly what we're talking about here: his father sat down with him and asked him what he'd like to achieve in his new year at school. They took out the previous year's school report and whited out the old results and then Andrew wrote in what he wanted to achieve in his new year at school... and achieved it.
