The Mastery Club® 10 Lessons Program finished yesterday at Ainslie Parklands Primary School.
Last week was our ‘Guest Speaker’ session. As all four boys were keen gamers and computer nerds(!), I found a guest speaker who would be right up their alley: an 18 year old girl who is studying gaming at the moment and has set and achieved some significant goals, including saving up for and buying her own specialist gaming computer quite a few years ago, teaching herself how to make games, and getting into the course of her choice. Now she is in the process of starting up her own studio!
Amy Blackley was also a Mastery Club fan a few years ago, and graduate of one of the first programs I ever ran, albeit when it was in a shorter format.
When I asked Amy if she'd like to be Guest Speaker, she responded very enthusiastically, adding:
'The Mastery Club shaped my childhood and in turn my life, it'd be an absolute pleasure if I could give something back.’
She certainly did. Amy made quite an impression on the boys, and they were still talking about her this week. One boy 'came out of retirement' (he’s been in serious school-refusal mode) to attend this session.
In yesterday’s final session we reviewed the entire program and I was quite impressed by how much they remembered – one boy in particular, who asked if the sponsors would pay for them to do the course again… :-)
